So, I was sat minding my own business at work today casually going about my day when I happened to glance over at the Bhut Jolokia plant I took to work last year as part of my over wintering thing, when I noticed…

It’s got the beginnings of what looks to be, a flower… ?

Early Bhut Jolokia Flower

Now, ordinarily I’d be a bit excited, but .. It’s only February. And just that as well. Well, OK, a week in – But, still!

There are a couple of other smaller buds dotted around it as well…

It’s not been in a particularly warm place, just sat next to my monitor. I’ve been dropping it some water every so often when it needed it, about once a week, maybe a quick gulp before I left for the weekend – Nothing special or particularly encouraging though.

After doing a little reading, I don’t expect these to stay – Stumpy did this a lot last year, started off flowers and just dropped them. With it being this early I’m pretty much expecting the same, still a surprise though.

But. That’s not all…

I got home from work and was inspecting my seedlings when I just happened to check on my Komodo Dragon as well…

It’s got a flower!

How did I not see that coming? This one I can understand, a little. It’s been on the windowsill which has had loads of good light recently, and it’s also above a radiator.

This was a picture I posted to my Facebook page on the 4th February this year, and, it’s not changed a lot since then.

(For those that don’t follow my blog regularly I planted the seeds for this plant from some Komodo Dragons when they hit the scene in August last year)

I sent out a Tweet about my surprise at both of todays flowers and got a nice response to my newbie Chilli growing…

Which is some advice I decided to go with – It’s only my second year growing Chillies, my first really considering the late start I had last year so I don’t really know what to expect.

It’s not the first time I’ve had assurance from a fellow Chillihead on Social Media either, it’s not even the first today to be honest – And, that’s ace.

Seems that the online Chilli community is a great place to be, I’m only a couple of months into this years adventure and I already feel like I’m amongst friends 🙂

I find that many of the flowers produced by a young plant in its early days fall off. Several of my over-Wintered plants have flowers now, so it will be interesting to see if second-year plants do any better.

I’m not expecting any fruit from the Komodo Dragon yet, was just surprised to see a flower so soon from it, especially considering it’s size.

I’ve got a Chilli Plant that I got through 2014 winter – It popped off flowers all last season and didn’t give me any fruit at all 🙁
