As I managed to successfully overwinter Stumpy last year, I thought I’d have a go at doing it again this year with some other plants, as I’ve mentioned several times already I was late planting mine this year and they’ve only just started to grow really. So, to make sure I’ve got a good head start on next year with growing Chillies, it’s the best option to take what I’ve got already!
Now then, last year when I overwintered Stumpy, I didn’t really know that’s what I was doing so it was probably blind luck that I managed to keep him alive.
One of the things I’ve not really taken advantage of is the big old WWW when it comes to growing Chillies, I’ve just been winging it, but, as I’ve reared a lot of these plants from seeds I’ve become kind of attached to them and want to save as many as possible. Mrs Chilli Diaries has been very nice about letting me fetch some of them in the house, but, I simply don’t have room for them all 🙁
One of the more entertaining chilli related Facebook pages I follow, the Clifton Chilli Club, has offered plenty of chilli related advice over the time I’ve been following them, as luck would have it, they also do videos, one of those about overwintering Chilli plants. #WIN
So, that’s pretty much the plan for me this year, follow that video and try not to get upset at how, well, pathetic the once majestic beasts look.
As for where to keep them, I’ve spoken to a few people who’ve got plastic greenhouses like mine, they seem to think that they do OK at keeping the frost away if you have your plants on the shelves. Sounds like a bit of a gamble to me, but, worth a try!
