B & M Grow Your Own Grow House Review

You might remember a little while ago I put up a Grow Your Own Grow House that I got from B&M Stores after my Greenhouse fell to pieces in the wind? Well. Let me tell you a story…

Grow HouseSo, it starts innocently enough with me building it, it looked like it was a good little idea, simple little structure to keep your plants in growbags, of course you’re going to fall in love with the idea of them.

I even told friends and family about them, my folks went out and bought one based on me telling them about it, they loved the idea as well. Which amateur Gardener wouldn’t?

It even looked the business when I’d put it up!Greenhouses

But it wasn’t long after that when I started to discover, problems with it’s design, especially when it rained…
B&M Growhouse when it rains

Yup, all the water just pools on top, forcing the roof in on itself… Obvious in hindsight.

I solved that problem, with a couple of sticks…

Growhouse rain soloution

I thought I’d conquered one problem before it started, I’ve got other Greenhouses and I know they’ve to be secured somehow! I’ve gone over this a few times now, so with this one I used a similar method…

Securing the Growhouse

The idea being that the growbag act as a weight to keep it held down, which it did. Kind of.

Yeah.

I’d also regularly come home to find it like this…

Growhouse Bar Falllen Out

There is a bar that’s fallen out of it on the floor in front of it if you can’t tell at first glance… To be fair, this amused me more than it did annoy me, I’d about given up hope when I saw this for the second time…

So, today I decided enough was enough, I was going to put it in the border, just to the back of it. It’s supposed to be on soil anyhow, perhaps all my problems would be solved?

Except I had to deal with the weeds that had grown in the border and had gotten pretty out of control first…

Weeds

An hour or two later, I had…Cleared Weeds

I’m not sure what that is left behind in there, I’ve left it up to Mrs. Diaries to tell me if that should be there or not, she’s better at that stuff than me…

I was originally going to just stick it on the soil use the supplied tent pegs and leave it, but, I had a better idea…

Buried Greenhouse

I buried the damn thing…

And then I duct taped the joints together to stop the bars falling out…

Duct taped joints

And while I had my duct tape out I put some round the bottom tie that keeps the cover attached to the frame to stop it moving up when it rained…

Moar Duct Tape

No idea if that’s going to work or not, but, got to try, right?

So, this is where I ended up at it…

B and M Stores GrowhouseI put a bigger, heavier grow bag in it as well – Doing all I can here folks!

I left my rain solution in place as I don’t know if the duct tape will hold the weight of the rain. I’m thinking it will, but, not taking any chances. It’s better protected from the rain now as well because it’s under a tree that you can’t quite see here.

Right. Let’s hope that’s the last of those worries then!

In closing, yes these B & M Grow Houses look ideal, but realistically, they’re not fit for purpose in my opinion. Fair enough it’s probably supposed to be tied to the ground properly somehow, but then so are my others and I’ve not had this problem and you don’t even get string with this model like you do the others. You get four tent pegs that don’t really offer you much in the way of reassurance.

Even though I’m desperate to get more plants growing properly I’m going to leave it like this for a few days and see how it does. If it doesn’t become more stable after this I’m giving up.

And it takes a LOT for me to give up.
